being offered by Insurance Companies: A,B,C,D,F,G,K,L,M and N. But
the most popular Medigap plans are F,G,C and the new supplement plan N.

The Most Popular Plan is F
Medicare Supplement Plan F is the most popular plan that seniors chose because
it covers all expenses not covered by Medicare. The plan includes payment of
Medicare Part A and Part B deductibles, the 20 percent Medicare co-payment
and any excess charges under Part B. Plan F is a very comprehensive plan with
the highest premium rates.

Plan G is the Second most popular plan
Medicare Supplement plan G covers the Medicare Part A deductible and
co-payments and excess charges from Medicare Part B. But the Part B $155 per

How Medicare Supplement Rates are Set

How Medicare Supplement Rates are Set

Many Seniors wonder how Medicare Supplement prices are determined.  The truth is,
Insurance companies set their own monthly rates for Medigap policies. There are three
basic ways a Insurance company might choose to establish their rates:

Community based rates:  The rates are the same for everyone no matter how old you are.
The monthly premiums are never affected by your age. They are affected by inflation and
other community factors.

Issue-age based rates: The premiums are based off your age at the time you purchase the
policy. This means everyone the same age will pay the same amount in premiums.

Attained-age-based rate: The premiums are based on your age and increase as you grow older.

In general, Medicare supplement policies vary greatly in premium rates. You will find different
rates for the same policy with different insurance providers.  So make sure you compare pricing
before choosing a medigap policy. When comparing make sure you are comparing the same
policy, like plan F, at 2 different companies.

Also, whatever the premiums are based on you are almost guaranteed that they will increase each
year. Some Insurance companies raise Medicare Supplement rates more often than others do, so
it is wise to investigate each insurance company before choosing to purchase a policy.

Supplement Plans VS Medicare Advantage Plans

Supplement VS Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Supplement Plans also called Medigap plans means you keep your Traditional
Medicare and add a 'supplemental' insurance to get better health care.

Key factors of Medicare Supplement Plans:

 >The benefits of Medigap plans are they are standardized by the federal government, meaning
that plans sold by different insurance companies all offer the same benefits.

 >Medigap plans offer services from a large network of doctors and caregivers.

 >Medigap plans always require an additional monthly premium

 >You will need to enroll in a separate prescription drug plan.

Key Factors of Medicare Advantage Plans

 >MAs are health plans offered by private insurance companies that provide the standard
Hospitalization and medical coverage of Medicare Part A and Part B.

 >MAs delivers their benefits through one or more of the following options like an HMO,PPO,
   or PFFs plan.

 >Some Medicare Advantage plans offer prescription drug coverage (often for an additional
    monthly cost)

If you want to enroll into a Medicare Advantage Plan that means you will move out of the
TraditionalMedicare into a private Health Plan provided by a private insurance company.
Any senior whochooses to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan must still pay the same monthly
premium as thoseenrolled in the traditional Medicare Part B. There could also be additional cost
depending onthe benefits provided by the plan. However, there are many Medicare Advantage
plans that offermore coverage protection than Medicare Parts A and B, but have zero extra
monthly premiums abovethe Part B amount that normally is paid. Many Medicare Advantage
plans have extra benefits and lower copayments than the Original Medicare Plan.

Top 6 Medicare Myths

 Medicare Advantage Plans Myths

 6) Medicare supplement plans are too expensive

Seniors can choose from a wide range of cost-benefit options. For example,
A Medicare Supplement Plan F which covers the gaps that Medicare doesn't pay
for and the most popular plan is usually very affordable. In Texas, Plan F could
cost from around $100 to $120 a month which is very reasonable. In New York it might
be a lot higher so seniors can consider a Medicare Advantage Plans that could be less
costly. (Senior Market Advisor Nov. 2012)

Top 6 Medicare Myths

Medicare Advantage Plans Myths:

5)  The Medicare supplement plan won't cover my drugs.

Most drugs are covered through prescription drug plans. But
the insured needs to check with the plan to ensure the drug is covered
and know what the co-payments are. Also, having a sense of which Medicare-approved
pharmacy providers are competitive in your area will help. (Senior Market Advisor Nov. 2012)

6 Medicare Advantage Plans Myths

Medicare Advantage Plans Myths:

4) I won't be able to use my doctors under this plan.

If you have a Medicare supplement plan, you can use any doctor, assuming
the doctor participates with Medicare. Some doctors and other high-end specialist might
not take Medicare patients in certain urban areas, but most doctors will accept Medicare.

But those who choose Medicare Advantage, which is a more traditional HMO or PPO offering,
may not be able to use their doctors or may be required to pay an additional fee. Like with
a commercial PPO, you might have a $10 co-pay for a doctor in-network and $20 for a specialist
and it may be double that amount if they're out of network. (Senior Market Advisor Nov. 2012)

2)  I can't switch plans because of my pre-existing condition.

Some seniors with pre-existing conditions are concerned about
changing their Medigap or Medicare plans because they heard the
condition won't be covered.  Traditional Medicare, Medicare Advantage
and Part D plans don't discriminate against pre-existing conditions. But you
may find that with Medigap or supplemental plans, pre-exsiting conditions are
a bigger issue.(Senior Market Advisor Magazine Nov. 2012)

6 Medicare Advantage Plans Myths

6 Medicare Advantage Plans Myths:

1)  Poor benefits and on the way out.

One of the big myths out there is that Medicare Advantage plans are not good
plans and that the health-care reform is eliminating Medicare Advantage plans.
Health-care reform is reducing some of the subsidies that might be paid to those
plans but Medicare Advantage will continue to be offered. Also, these plans offer
a range of structures and benefits that can help seniors tailor a plan to fit their
needs at a competitive price. (Senior Market Advisor magazine Nov. 2012)

Medicare Supplement Plans 101

What is a Medicare Supplement Plan?

Medicare supplement plans (also called Medigap) are private health insurance
specifically designed to supplement and only work with Original Medicare.

They are sold by private Insurance companies.
Generally, beneficiaries must have Medicare Part A and Part B to buy a Medicare
Supplement plan.

Medicare supplement plans will help you pay some of the cost that are
not covered my Original Medicare like coinsurance, co-payments and deductibles.
They may also cover certain medical services Medicare doesn't cover.

Medicare supplement plans are identified by letters (such as Plan F) except in
Massachusetts, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Each Insurance Company that sells Medicare supplement plans must offer the same
basic benefits and also must follow federal and state laws. There are a number of different
Medigap policies and not all insurance companies sell all policies and their premiums vary.
So when you are choosing a Medicare Supplement policy ask yourself these questions so you can
make an informed decision:

  > What does your budget allow for a Medicare Supplement plan?

  > What benefits do you need?

  > How does the premium for the plan you are considering stack up against other comparable plans?

  > What waiting periods apply to pre-existing conditions? Do you have other coverage for these
    conditions during that time?

Tip #1: Understanding that Medicare Supplement plans are standardized.

It is important to understand that when it comes to Medicare Supplement Plans plan benefits for the same style of plan, are identical – no matter which company you buy from. For example - a Plan C from one company has the same medical coverage as a Plan C from any other. The difference is in the company, the quality of service, the price, and occasionally the network (When dealing with Medicare Select).

I will be posting back shortly with Medicare Supplemental tip #2 shortly.
